We all have parts of our body that we don’t like. I have been overweight (at least in my eyes) for years. In highschool I topped out at about 225 lbs and after I got married hit close to 240lbs. I decided that would change and learned a lot about health, nutrition and weight loss. I found that weight loss is done 90% at the diet level, while muscle toning and strength gain is done with exercise. Yeah that means if you work out and eat fries… generally you wont be fit… Some freaks out there will but generally you wont.
I started my ketogenic diet a in 2015 and found great results. I dropped down to 200 lbs without much effort. In 2016 I dropped to 190 lbs and went to the gym religiously from August to January 2017. Life happened and I stopped going for the most part but will be headed back there soon. But in my process I was looking for the best beginner guide to lifting that I could find. I hate carrying around a notebook, mp3 player, and everything with me so I started looking at apps. I found Stronglifts not to long after I started looking and was blown away.
What is it?
Stronglifts is a basic workout routine geared at building strength by using a 5 sets x 5 reps routine that includes full body exercises like Squats, deadlifts, overhead press, rows etc. It shows you how to perform each exercise, and times your reps, and rest periods. If you complete your sets fully, it auto increases the weight. It does all the work for you (except the lifting part). It even alternates your workouts for you.
I love the simplicity of the app. Tracking individual reps, and providing rest time is great. The basic workout takes about 45 min to complete, while you can purchase the POWER PACK for $4.99 and modify your exercises to meet your individual needs. It tracks your progress, and weight loss/gain over specified periods of time. It even suggests the amount of weight to reduce, if you stopped lifting so a certain length of time. Oh and the basic app is 100% FREE… No Ads, you just are stuck with the basic workout. Which is a great beginner workout!
I can’t think of a single bad thing about the app. I really can’t. I try and post something bad about everything, but I don’t think there is anything bad about it… Okay, this app is generally for noobs, it’s geared towards building strength not powerlifting. Over time you will increase in size, and your weights will go up. But you aren’t going to be Mr. Universe on the app… Though I don’t want to be either.
