Sweet Pea Cloth Diapers

I had decided when we first learned my wife was pregnant that I wanted to do at least some cloth diapering. Cloth has come a long way and disposables are really expensive overall. We invested in many different kinds of cloth including Thirsty’s, Apple Cheeks, Bum Genius as well as a few others that I am forgetting. Recently I came across the Sweet Pea brand.
I only stumbled across them from instagram. I had followed the baby store alaska and was thrilled to see their exclusive pattern… Fireweed. I love Alaska and would be thrilled to live up there. I worked for a company that was based out of Anchorage and got to visit. If you haven’t been, you have to go. At least once. It is beautiful, wild, and simply amazing. I also love fireweed (at least the honey that the bees make from fireweed). And the exclusive diaper that they have is beautiful.

Overview:

If you don’t cloth diaper, think about it. It is easy to clean up, it saves money in the long run, helps protect the environment, and helps potty train quicker. If you already do then you know the details about cloth diapering. It is important to know the material and the absorbancy of said material as well as how much liquid it can hold. If we neglect to change our son regularly, he can easily pee through cloth because they are only so absorbent, but it also keeps him from getting diaper rash because we are changing diapers a little more frequently. The Sweet Pea diaper is made from bamboo and polyester, so it is incredibly soft and easy to manipulate. It is an all-in-one, so it has the pad sewn into the diaper with an additional pad that can be snapped in or removed. The all-in-one also can adjust to several different sizes to accommodate children of various ages and sizes.

The Good:

The diaper is incredibly soft and does wonders for absorbing liquids. It stretches easily and the elastic around the legs is high quality and doesn’t seem like it will wear out any time soon. The polyester cover is beautifully designed and is an absolute dream. Also available is matching bibs with a catch for stray food. The service that The baby store Alaska provides is top-notch. Fast delivery, amazing service and quick response to email.

The Bad:

The diaper itself is great, but there is an extra pad that comes with it. When you don’t have a large enough baby, that pad gets in the way. My son is in size 3 diapers and I was able to adjust the cloth to fit fine, but that extra pad was just a little too much. Though it provided an extra layer of absorbancy. Which is needed for overnight in a cloth.

Recommendation:

It is a fantastic product that comes highly recommended. The pattern is gorgeous and can only be gotten from the baby store Alaska so make sure you head over to her website and check out what she has to offer. Also check out Sweet Pea and check out some of the other patterns they have.

Cloth diapering, like every part of being a father, is an exciting adventure and I do it to make sure that the world is a better place to both raise my son in, and for him to raise his children in. We have a responsibility to ensure that our children’s future is as bright as possible.
