FREY Men’s Laundry Detergent

So I kept seeing ads on Facebook for this product called FREY for men. I finally was interested enough to look into what it was. That was when I realized my wife was telling me about it for several weeks. It’s Laundry Detergent… For Men. Now I have seen everything. My amazing wife does 99% of the laundry in our household, which I am eternally grateful for, but this seemed like a ploy.

So I got me a set. Included was fabric softener dryer sheets, detergent, smell good (freshener), stain remover, all in a fancy box. This isn’t something that I would normally go for, but I gave it a shot.

The product itself is interesting. The target market is me, Men. And seems like there would be a push from the women to get this product so that the men will do their own laundry. I could totally see that. The package arrived quickly, and was amazingly presented. The product design is sleek and very classy (though so is buying different detergents for different people in the household).

Baby Gear for Dads

I opened the bottle of freshener and it smelled good. The same smell permitted the box of dryer sheets and I did a load of laundry (Hallelujah). The smell was very reminiscent of popular men’s cologne though I am not sure of specific brands. The clothes came out of the dryer soft with faint smell of the cologne. The detergent bottle gives you directions to increase the aroma and for larger or smaller loads. The smell lingers on the clothes and in the washer.

The Good:

So the smell is faint, which is a good thing. I get headaches pretty easily from strong perfumes, even my own cologne gives me headaches. A light smell is perfect for a fresh scent on your favorite polo. It also is light enough where it won’t clash with other smells, aftershave, deodorant or any other products you may use. The Dryer sheets left the fabric soft and static free. As a note because the product has fabric softener you probably don’t want to wash under armour in it. My work UA polos adopted a different smell than the FREY and it doesn’t appeal to me.  They do offer a subscription service which is pretty cool. You don’t have to worry about lugging home that huge thing of detergent from the grocery store any more, instead have it delivered to your house, automatically. The best part is they give back to the community.

According to their website, every purchase helps someone in need get their clothes washed. That in and of itself is reason to buy.

Because we believe a man’s actions demonstrate his values, we teamed-up with our non-profit partner Current Initiatives to create our Wash for Wash program. For every bottle of FREY purchased, a portion of the proceeds are donated to Current to ensure the clothing of someone in need is washed. Read more about the program here.

The Bad:

FREY for Men is an excellent product, and positioned right it can be an excellent help to the men out there. The problem lies not in the product, but in the positioning. My wife likes the smell of the detergent but doesn’t want her clothes washed in it. If the laundry is done for everyone all at once, then this is not the product for you. If you can segregate your laundry from your wife’s or you are a single man, then this may be a fantastic product for you! As a married man who doesn’t do much of the laundry, it is hard for me to spend the money on a product for washing only my clothes.

This may not be the case for everyone out there and I encourage you to at least give it a try once to see if you can make it work in your household. It is a fantastic product that gives 10% back to the community and charities which is awesome. The smell is perfect and just light enough not to interfere with other smell good product you may wear. Go grab a bottle today and try it for yourself. And do the laundry once in a while. FREY for men is trying to break the stereotypes that plague men… Help them by helping with the laundry.

Yes, but does it clean and not damage the clothing?! After searching for the best clothing detergent that do the above, I decided to use Tide in whites and light colors and Woolite for dark for dark colors. I found that a combination of both work best for all colors. I also add Oxyclean to the whites. I also add some scented softener. This combination works pretty good for me, particularly with the dark colors.

It works well for me. I use it because it cleans and it smells great. I like the smell of many other detergents too but some give me headaches so I stick with a free and clear and this. I don’t think the free and clear cleans as well as others. But usually reserve this for my bed sheets and covers since I enjoy it so much.

I really like FREY. Agreed, not so much a female fragrance. Good for towels or bedding, though. Cleans clothes and gives a nice fragrance, however manly. On the other hand, you’d be surprised how many females like the sent as well. It’s just one of those things that you just have to give it a shot.

It is. My wife loves it on my clothes and the bedding but not something she wants to wash her stuff in.
